Project DIRECT conducts research...our findings improve the well-being of children and families in New Orleans and across the country.
Our research efforts are directly tied to the clinical services we provide. We focus on better understanding and improving how evidence-based practices are implemented in low income settings serving children and their families.
Project DIRECT's research is ethical. Our research efforts are monitored by Tulane University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) and all team members complete training in the responsible conduct of research.
Project DIRECT's research is equitable, relevant, and culturally competent. Our team utilizes a best practice community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach. Our partnership-based approach to research means that our community partners are equitably involved in identifying and evaluating relevant research questions. The knowledge we gain from our efforts is quickly put into practice with the goal of achieving social change. All of our activities are also monitored by our Community Advisory Board (CAB), which consists of local educators, administrators, mental health professionals, and parents.
Project DIRECT gives back to our research partners. In addition to stipends and giftcard raffles for research participation, we are also pleased to provide our research partners with clinical services, on-site classroom support for teachers, professional development for teachers, workshops for parents, and opportunities for research training.
We are actively recruiting partners for our research! Interested in participating? Check out our ongoing projects.
One of our main research goals is to disseminate our findings nationally via conference presentations, invited presentations, and publications in academic journals and books. Project DIRECT's undergraduate and graduate students are actively involved in this effort.
